The construction of a safe, modern national road linking the two ends of Crete is a priority for the region said governor Arnaoutakis at the regional council meeting on Wednesday.
Mr Arnaoutakis supports the construction of a toll free North National Road (BOAK) using loans from the European Investment Bank. A new toll free road cannot however be built using European development money or government grants Mr Arnaoutakis added.
The government and development minister Stathakis are convinced that the region’s proposals for a toll free road are on the right track and a decision is expected in February
