The region of Crete environmental committee has unanimously approved the environmental impact assessment for the proposed Apokoronas diving park in their last meeting of 2017 on 27 December.
The diving park has been proposed by Apokoronas council, is one of the projects in the municipalities development plan driven by mayor Koukianakis.
The diving park is to be located in a 15-acre area at Emprosgialos bay.
The diving park is planned with three courses of varying difficulty and includes artificial reefs as well as two shipwrecks.
Surface floating points and boats will be used to keep the diving area safe for users and routes will be charted for that boats will avoid it.
The Diving Park will be accessed by boat from the ports of Georgioupoli, Almirida, Kalives Marathi and Embrosgialos.
