Once again Almyrida was cut in two as the hotel car park – that was built on the banks of a dried up creek flooded, as it always does after heavy rain fill the creek and strong northerly winds push the sea into the shore.
The local annual car boot sale in aid of Apokoronas council’s Social Supermarket that usually uses the car park went ahead at a different location in Almyrida and was, as usual, a great success despite the weather.
Flooding is an ongoing problem for that part of Almyrida. Several new buildings were allowed to be build on the flood area of the creek which also obstructed the creek’s bed, which it is claimed has made the flooding worse. There is also a call for the authorities to take action to reduce the risk of future floods that can damage adjacent buildings and businesses.
