Greece’s air traffic controllers have announced that they will begin four 24-hour rolling strikes on Sunday, October 9, to protest against new Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority legislation approved on Thursday.
Greek parliament approved a bill to ‘overhaul the country’s Civil Aviation Authority’, as demanded by the lenders , a ‘prior action’ tied to the next loan tranche of 2.8 billion euros.
The bill was backed by MPs of the ruling coalition parties as well as the small Union of Centrists.
Athens hopes to get the green light for the 2.8 billion euros at a meeting of eurozone finance ministers scheduled for Monday.
Air traffic controllers will strike on Sunday (October 9), Monday (October 10), Wednesday (October 12) and Thursday (October 13) from 00:01 until 23:59. On those days no flights will run in or out of Greece.
The strike is expected to affect all flights to and from Greece including domestic flights. If you are travelling between 9 and 13 October check with your airline or agent as flights maybe cancelled.
