Last Wednesday a large rock fell on the national road at Kalami, the same location affected by a large landslide last winter and by subsequent rock falls. This time however the incident occurred during the day, just after 16:00 when the road was busy with traffic and in good weather conditions. That no one was hurt was only a matter of good fortune. According to eye witnesses the large rock weighing over a tonne, narrowly missed a group of motorcyclists on the Rethymnon bound side of the road.
Drivers who use the road frequently are concerned, as this is the third rock fall incident since a major landslide closed the eastbound side of the national road at Kalami last winter.
