On Tuesday the Greek ambulance service EKAB signed a deal with Mercedes Benz for the supply of 51 ambulances at the cost of 3,051,814 euro or 59,000 euro per ambulance. The vehicles will be allocated to the region of Crete (25), Western Macedonia (14), North Aegean (2) and Peloponnese (10).
The 51 ambulances are part of a programme of upgrading the fleet of ambulances with the addition of 167 new vehicles and 19 mobile emergency units in all 13 regions of the country.
Three car manufactures made offers for the basic vehicle which will be modified and equipped by a different company.
Apart from Mercedes Lancia/Jeep Hellas and Citroen which in 2004 supplied the ambulances currently used by EKAB submitted offers.
