Wild boar herd free in Taleo Peak, Rethymno

After Sifis the crocodile more wild life was reported in the municipality of Milopotamos, Rethymnon, at the foothills of Psiloritis.

A herd of an estimated 200 wild boar are causing havoc in the area attaching and killing newborn lambs and destroying crops and plants in the frygana scrubland as well as ancient oak trees, by digging out their roots.

It is not known how the animals got to be there – if they were released by some farmer or if they are the offspring of an escaped breeding pair of hogs.

Wild boar are large and potentially dangerous animals if they are frightened or when they are protecting their young.
