Tax officials hounded from Rhodes fete

Kathimerini — Dozens of revelers at a church fete on the southeastern Aegean island of Rhodes on Wednesday night verbally assaulted a group of tax inspectors tasked with checking that vendors were licensed and issuing receipts.

A report by local media Rodiaki.gr on Thursday said that police escorting the team had to shield it from an angry mob that hurled insults and physically threatened the officials as they tried to inspect vendors at a fete in the village of Maritsa.

This was the second incident in less than a month of tax inspectors being threatened on Rhodes.
