Ryanair statement on the inflight smoking incident

Ryanair issued the following statement following the arrest of a man smoking on board the Thessaloniki to Chania flight on 9 August.

“The crew of this flight from Thessaloniki to Chania (9 Aug) called ahead for police assistance on arrival after a passenger was found smoking inflight. The aircraft landed normally and police removed this individual. We will not tolerate unruly, disruptive or unlawful behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. This is now a matter for the local police.”

The airline did not comment on the behaviour of the passenger at the Thessaloniki terminal – it was claimed by other passengers that he was smoking unchallenged at the departure gate in Thessaloniki.
