Police fear more violence after vendetta shooting in Chania

Police in Chania kept a close eye on a 24-year-old man who lies injured in a critical condition at Chania  hospital   on Monday. The young man was taken to hospital with gunshot injuries and had to undergo extensive surgery to remove the bullets.  The shooting occured in the early hours of Monday in full public view in a coffee bar  in the centre of Chania. Police believe that the shooting is the result of  vendetta that has its roots in another fatal incident that took place in October 2011 in a  Chania village  involving the young men’s fathers.

The 24-year-old was shot at least five times at close range, including in the head and neck, and had to undergo extensive surgery.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting and he is held under guard at an undisclosed location for fear of reprisals
