Laycock couple complete Crete charity trek

(Keighley News) A  couple from Laycock,Wiltshire, have walked the length of Crete to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Paul and Ann Carter completed the 60-kilometre challenge in under 11 hours.

They and five friends set off from Paleochora, on the south-west coast, and headed north to Tavronitis.

The route, through the Greek island’s white mountains, reached heights of 2,000 metres.

Together they have raised nearly 7,000 euros – equivalent to over £5,000 – for Cancer Research UK.

Mrs Carter, 56, a licensed conveyancer at Burr Sugden in Keighley, said: “The whole team was really strong and kept a very quick pace throughout the walk, with no weaknesses – apart from very sore feet!

“Nearly 7,000 euros is amazing for a one-day walk. We were delighted.”
