Kos holidaymakers buy supplies for Syrian refugees

BBC — A Manchester woman holidaying on the Greek island of Kos has turned the trip into a humanitarian mission.

Niamh McGarry Gribbon and her partner, Steph, raised £2,500 after seeing the plight of refugees on the island and then distributed food and clothing to desperate families.

The nurse, who is originally from Crosby, got relatives in Merseyside to set up a JustGiving page and raised the cash in just 24 hours.

She said: “We have a car and we have found a cash and carry that means we can buy water and food in bulk.

“We want to do as much as we can in the short time we have here to help.”

She added: “Our aim is to buy fresh food that we can just hand out and bottled water and toiletries.”
