Ireland agrees to accept 1,100 asylum seekers from Greece

The Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) of Ireland  Frances Fitzgerald has said Ireland will accept at least 1,100 asylum seekers from Greece by September next year.

Ms Fitzgerald has been meeting with Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras as part of her official visit to the country with Minister Katherine Zappone.

Minister Fitzgerald says the Government is determined to welcome vulnerable people fleeing war and conflict.

The 1,100 figure includes those who have already arrived in Ireland.
