International recognition for “Kalami, the face of abandonment” (video)

After its selection  for the 3rd CINÉDRONES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2017 that took place in November at Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, Gironde, Nikos Sarantos’s film “Kalami, the face of abandonment” made it to the finals of the LA film festival in the photography category.

The film is about the Cretan mountain village of Kalami, 80 km east of Heraklion, in Vianos. Kalami was abandoned by its 600 residents who left in the 1970s in search of a better life in the south coast of  Crete or further afield. Today there are only 6 elderly residents left in Kalami.

The LA Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Culver City, California. It showcases independent, international, feature, documentary and short films. The results will be announced on 3 January.
