Firemen, soldiers battling blaze in Ierapetra

eKathimerini — Two helicopters, 24 fire engines, 60 firefighters and 30 soldiers on Tuesday were helping battle a fire that broke out in the area of Kali Achlada, near the Selakanos forest in Ierapetra, in eastern Crete, late on Monday. The fire developed  a wide front burning on the edge of the forest
According to the fire service, the blaze was heading toward the area of Males which the security forces were getting ready to evacuate when the wind changed direction driving the blaze away from the village. No residential areas were being threatened.
