Dijsselbloem: The Greek economy is beginning to grow, ELSTAT court case not triggered by the current government

Source: Bloomberg — Speaking to Bloomberg, the Dutch finance minister and Eurogroup chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem  said that the Greek government is moving in the right direction he is reasonably confident that the ‘further adjustments will not be needed’.

‘A further disbursement of money is ready and he next instalment will further aid the economic recovery which is beginning to show. ‘First figures of economic growth have been registered in Greece’,   the Dutch minister said.

Addressing  the recent prosecution of the former ELSTAT chief for allegedly inflating Greece’s 2009 deficit,
Jeroen Dijsselbloem said that he has little to say on the matter apart from the fact that ELSTAT, the Greek statistics authority  should be completely independent.

“But I don’t think we can blame the current government for the situation we are in. This court case has not been triggered by the current government, so we have to be careful to whom we address our criticism” Jeroen Dijsselbloem said.

The issue of ELSTAT has been included on the agenda of the Eurogroup on September 9 in Bratislava, where Greece is expected to come under renewed pressure to stop the judicial process. The problem  here for the Greek government is that legal authorities are also (or should be) completely independent.
