Crete police breaks drugs ring

Crete Post — Two men aged 79 and 42 and a woman, 37 were arrested in Heraklion on Thursday afternoon.

Police officers arrested the 42 year old man at Heraklion Airport a few minutes after his flight landed.

They also arrested the 37 year old woman at her workplace.

The arrests came as a result of  a five month operation by Heraklion Police and the Organized Crime Group of the Hellenic Police who spent thousands of work hours investigating  the cocaine racket, according to a statement.

The 42-year-old was a farmer, who attracted attention to himself  when  he started living beyond his means. The man was already known to the police from his criminal record for drug trafficing an possession offences.

Police had to dig for more than eight hours in his farmland in Gortyna and found  3 kilograms and 224 grams of cocaine that were buried.

  • mobile phones

Another man  related to the 42 year old  was also arrested at Heraklion airport was also believed to be involved in the drug smuggling  ring

 

According to Crete Police, the 42-year-old man was ready to emigrate to the Netherlands, from where he was getting the cocaine he was then selling in Greece.

The 79-year-old man, father of the main suspect, is held for firearm offences.
