Chania man shoots son mistaking him for intruder

An  85-year-old man appeared before the public prosecutor  accused of killing his 58-year-old son son on Saturday in the area of Aghioi Theodoroi in Chania on Monday for a preliminary hearing.

According to reports, the victim went in his father’s house through the window after knocking on the front door  for a while and getting no response.

Mistaking his son for a thief, he shot him with a shotgun. He then barricaded himself in his house firing several shots at the police who arrived at the scene.

The accused is said to be hearing impaired and was using no hearing aid at the time of the incident.  A psychological evaluation was requested by the court.
