Chania civil protection on alert after weather warning

Chania civil protection authorities are on alert after a weather warning was issued by the National Meteorological service that is likely to affect Crete starting from the west, the local ERT, part of the National Radio and Television network, reports.  Very strong winds and heavy rain, possible hailstorms,  are expected to hit the island over the next few days, with the weekend and Monday seeing the worst of the weather.

The public are advised to take care and avoid taking risks while travelling, and wherever possible secure items that can be blown away in the wind causing damage.
