Briton in Malia tourist death probe posts bail

A 23-year-old barman accused of delivering the punch that led to a teenage fellow Briton losing his life in Malia  was granted bail on Monday.

The 18-year-old was found dead in his room in the resort of Sissi last Friday after a night out with friends in the popular town of Malia.

A postmortem found that the youngster, who has not been named, suffered serious head injuries.

Police believe that he became embroiled in an argument with the barman, who punched him.

The 18-year-old had allegedly been drinking with friends and authorities believe he may have hit his head on the ground when he was felled by the barman’s punch.

The 23-year-old was ordered to post 20,000 euros in bail and to remain in Greece pending trial.

He also has to appear at his local police precinct on the 1st and 15th of each month.
