31 deaths on Crete’s roads in the first 6 months of 2015

A significant increase in the number of fatal accidents on the roads of Crete was recorded by the traffic police in the first six months of the year.

31 deaths in 30 accidents only 4 of which occurred on the national road.

In the same period last year there were 18 accidents resulting in 21 deaths, an increase of 47.5%.

There was also an increase in the number of serious injuries in the first 6 months of 2015, with 29 serious injuries, compared to 26 for the same period last year.

Traffic police analysis of the accidents investigated attribute larger number of road accidents to the following: Driver error, driving on the wrong side of the road, driver distraction (phone, passenger, radio)

Less frequent causes of accidents were road and weather conditions, excessive speed and going through a red light.
